A university renowned for its commitment to research sought help working towards reaching net zero carbon by 2035.

Challenge: A university renowned for its commitment to research sought help working towards reaching net zero carbon by 2035. Given the institution’s size, with several buildings and energy-intensive research equipment that required constant power, this was a challenge. They focused on one research facility, planning to apply their learnings across the university’s infrastructure, and needed an energy-monitoring solution that could be installed without any disruption to its equipment.

Solution: 838 sensors were installed within ~40 distribution boards across five floors of the university building in just two weeks, with no interruptions to power supplies. As the wireless PowerRadar devices transmit energy usage to the cloud via a data collector and cellular network, the university didn’t compromise its network or data security. The customer got immediate access to energy consumption data, with reports revealing unexpected energy usage when the building was empty overnight and on the weekends, including which circuits were responsible.

Result: Significant annual savings achieved through reduced waste, increased awareness of off-hour energy waste, supported strategising for energy-saving solutions, and supported journey towards energy usage reduction goals.

You get access to high-resolution data the same day as deployment completion. A 10-second sampling rate allows for a detailed analysis of load behaviour and precise setting of alarm limits.
